Cushions wear out several times faster than frames. On a fleet of three hundred chairs that is the single largest maintenance line after labour, so how the seat is specified matters more than how thick it looks on day one.
Not the cover, usually — the foam underneath. Low-density foam collapses under repeated loading, and once a seat has flattened the chair reads as old regardless of the frame. Density and thickness are worth stating explicitly rather than leaving to the supplier's default.
| Moulded sponge | Cotton pad | |
|---|---|---|
| Feel on first sit | Firmer | Softer |
| Shape retention | Holds longer under repeated use | Compresses sooner |
| Best for | Rental fleets, hotel ballrooms | Venues that replace less often |
| Replacement | Swap without tools | Swap without tools |
Both are replaceable on our chairs. The choice is about how the seat feels in year three, not about the price at order.
A thicker pad raises the seat height slightly and changes the chair's silhouette — on a Chiavari, a deep pad makes the chair read as an upholstered banquet chair rather than a bare frame. If the room's look depends on the slim profile, specify a thin pad and accept the harder seat.
Contract-grade fabric is the difference between a chair that still looks sharp in year three and one that has been recovered twice. It is also where buyers try to save money, and where the saving is usually lost.
We keep the fabric reference and lot against your account, so the second order is not a colour-matching exercise. That single administrative step is what stops a fleet drifting into three shades of ivory.
Fitted cushions deploy faster on site. Separate packing adds roughly 10–15% to the usable container load because the frames stack tighter without pads — worth knowing when the container is the constraint and the labour is not.
Sponge holds its shape longer under repeated loading; cotton feels softer on the first sit and compresses sooner. For a rental fleet, sponge. For a venue that wants a softer seat and replaces less often, either works if the density is specified.
Yes. The seat is built to be swapped without tools, so a worn cushion does not retire the chair — which is the single biggest maintenance saving on a rental fleet.
Either. Fitted is faster to deploy; separate packs flatter and can add 10–15% to the usable container load, because the chairs stack tighter without them.
Yes. We match to a fabric reference or a colour card, and keep the reference on file so repeat orders match the first batch.
